Join PRMIA Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver as we explore the risks and economic consequences of COVID-19 on select Canadian industries, including agriculture, energy and hospitality; how the emerging risks are being managed in the long run, what their respective futures look like and how they can come back stronger.

Is the forecast bright or gloomy - How long will recovery take and what steps should be taken to curtail ever-present risks? Looking ahead into a post-pandemic Canada, with some of its key industries how these will manage risks and challenges caused by the pandemic and an uncertain economic environment. High profile speakers and experts focused on Hospitality, Energy, Financial Services, Fiscal Policy and Real Estate will share their perspectives on how these industries will develop in the medium and long-term. We will discuss how the pandemic has impacted these industries and what were the factors behind their vulnerability or resilience.

Discussion Topics:

  • How have industry responses to the pandemic varied, and what can they learn from each other?
  • What is the potential for contagion among sectors? Which shape and do these differ from industry to industry, from province to province?
  • Are regulators and government agencies lending a helping hand or deepening the trouble sectors are already in?

The virtual event is broadly targeted at risk management professionals and related roles interested in the Canadian impacts of the pandemic. PRMIA members are encouraged to invite their risk management and other interested colleagues.

  Todd Hirsch, Vice President and Chief Economist, ATB Financial
Todd Hirsch is the Vice President and Chief Economist for ATB Financial. He holds degrees in economics from the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. For over 20 years, he’s worked as an economist at numerous organizations including the Canada West Foundation and the Bank of Canada.

He’s also the author of three books. His latest, “Spiders in Space: Successfully Adapting to Unwanted Change,” was released in 2017. Todd is a strong advocate in the arts and culture community. He is the board chair of the Calgary Arts Academy, and is on the boards of the Glenbow Museum and the Alberta Ballet.
 
       
  Ingrid Jarrett, President and CEO, British Columbia Hotel Association
The first-ever female President and CEO of the British Columbia Hotel Association, Ingrid Jarrett is an industry powerhouse who has spent the past three decades directly contributing to building the tourism sector across B.C. and Canada. Her impressive resume spans leadership work and volunteer roles at leading organizations like Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Watermark Beach Resort, and she has held leadership positions on several Tourism Boards including Victoria and the Thompson Okanagan region. Today, Ingrid channels her extensive knowledge and acute insights into supporting, and advocating for, members of the hotel industry province-wide, and leading the industry out of the crisis caused by COVID-19.
 
       
  Daniel Marchand, Senior Vice President, Head of Investor Global Sales,Trez Capital
Daniel joined Trez Capital in August 2016. In his role, he oversees the firm's sales and client service efforts and is a member of the firm’s executive committee. He manages a team of 14 members and is responsible for the firm’s key institutional and strategic relationships.

Daniel brings over 25 years of investment consulting, business and product development expertise. Most recently he served as Senior Vice President, Global Business Development at Nuveen Investments of Chicago, prior to which he held similar positions at Lazard Asset Management of New York and RBC Global Asset Management. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Concordia University as well as various investment designations.
 
       
  Andrew Kelvin, Chief Canada Strategist, TD Securities
Andrew is the Chief Canada Strategist with TD Securities, and in his role Andrew contributes oversees the group's commentary on Canadian economics and government debt markets.

Prior to joining TD Securities in 2011, Andrew spent four years working at the Bank of Canada in the International and Financial Markets Departments. In his role with the International Department he worked as an Economist responsible for analysis and forecasts on the US economy. Later he transitioned to a position as a Senior Analyst in the Financial Markets Department where he provided coverage on market developments.

Sarah Reppchen, M.Sc., M.A., German CPA (Wirtschaftspruefer), Leader Financial Services Western Canada, Risk Advisory, Deloitte LLP 
Sarah Reppchen is the Co-Regional Director of the PRMIA Chapter Vancouver and leading Financial Services for Deloitte’s Risk Advisory practice in Western Canada. At Deloitte, she is responsible for supporting Financial Institutions across Western Canada managing the Regulatory and Risk Management challenges, especially Operational Risk creates one of the most imminent challenges. Sarah has over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry, especially in auditing and advising Enterprise Risk Management Functions concerning regulatory compliance in the context of the Basel III framework, as well as Vendor Risk Management Governance, Anti Money Laundering processes and Model Risk Management. Sarah’s primary experience was generated on large, complex banks (G-SIBs, D-SIBs), Credit Unions, investment management firms in Canada, Europe and on a global scale. Sarah has worked with the first, second, and third line of defense to inform on optimization opportunities while meeting regulatory requirements. She worked on behalf of EU Supervisory Authorities (ECB, BaFin, PRA) and supported on managing Regulatory Affairs with Regulators in North America. She was mandated by Regulators to support their audits of large banks concerning operational resilience, governance, development of control frameworks and policies meeting operational risk management and reporting requirements. Sarah qualifies as Wirtschaftspruefer, the German CPA (IFAC compliant).
