Financial Statement Fraud: Detection & Investigation

In this in-person session, PRMIA's London Chapter brings together a deeply experienced and diverse panel to discuss the prevalence of fraud in credit risk, reliance on audited financial statements and look at some recent case studies to spot indicators of financial statement fraud, and how to respond to incidences of fraud.  This is the first of a 2-part series, with the second one focusing on operational/ digital risks.

  Chair: Simon Hillard, Steerco member, PRMIA London Chapter and OneRisk Consulting
Simon is member of the Steering Committee of PRMIA’s London Chapter. He consults for the financial services industry on risk and ESG and previously has an extensive career in the City of London including holding an SMF4 Head of Risk role.  He also worked previously at the FCA. 

 
       
    Andrew Marshall-Hardy, MD, Wholesale Fraud Risk Management, HSBC 
Andrew is Global Head of Fraud Risk, Wholesale Banking at HSBC and has worked in Fraud Risk for the past 16 years across HSBC, Standard Chartered and Barclays. Prior to working in Fraud Risk, Andrew worked across Debt Restructuring, Credit and Front Office roles.  The management of financial statement fraud within the corporate lending processes is a key focus for Andrew’s team who has developed innovative detective capabilities to reduce risk exposure. 
 
       
  Brendan Weekes, Associate Director, Evelyn Partners Brendan Weekes
Brendan is part of the specialist forensics team at Evelyn Partners, which comprises accountants, investigators and computer forensics professionals. A specialist in forensic accounting, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2009 and also has experience in dispute resolution services, asset tracing and criminal defence.  Brendan is also a trustee director of the Fraud Advisory Panel, a committee member of the Private Prosecutors Association and a member of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Business Crime Committee. 
 
       
  Josie Welland, Senior Associate, CMS Cameron McKenna and Chair of the Female Fraud Forum  
Josie Welland is a Senior Associate in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications team at the international law firm, CMS, specialising in cybercrime and digital fraud enforcement.   Josie is the Chair of the Female Fraud Forum. A non-profit organisation operating within the civil and criminal fraud sectors.
 
       
    Melanie Ryan, Partner, Pinsent Masons LLP 
Melanie Ryan is a Partner at Pinsent Masons and represents clients in commercial litigation and disputes, corporate and regulatory investigations, and related enforcement proceedings across a range of sectors with a particular focus on banking, financial services, pharma and energy.
