PRMIA Announces the Champions of the 2018 Risk Management Challenge
41 schools. 83 teams. 320 competitors.
1 International champion team takes home the $10,000 prize!
On April 14, 2018, ten international team finalists met in New York at Baruch College to participate in the final championship round of the PRMIA Risk Management Challenge (PRMC). The ten teams represented undergraduate and graduate students from universities/colleges across Chicago, Edmonton, Egypt, Hungary, London, Montreal, New York, Toronto, and Vancouver.
Congratulations to Team Star from University of Connecticut - Xiao Wang, Xiaofan Hou, Junchao Liao, and Tuershunjiang Ahemaitijiang. The champions took home the $10,000 in prize money for the team and were offered fee waivers for the Professional Risk Manager (PRM™) Designation. Congratulations also to the runners-up, Team JKS Consultants from the University of Alberta - Junaid Grewal, Stanley Nnoromele, Kike Mosuro, and Akash Majumdar. The runners-up were also awarded fee waivers for the PRM™ Designation. Each team that qualified for the final received PRMIA Sustaining memberships for each team member.
All finalists made it through their local regional round challenges by analyzing a case study on GE Capital Corporation’s adaptation to the Financial Crisis, the subsequent SIFI labelling and strategic decisions on optimizing the holding company’s balance sheet. At the international challenge finalists convened at Baruch College, where each team presented their analysis and strategic solutions to Lehman Brother’s pre-crisis ramp up.
All teams attended a lunch panel session on Risk Managing your Career, with Dan Rodriguez, Mark Abbott and Ken Radigan. They shared their evolving experience on how they grew, and what are their personal principles for success and ethics. All the panelists have been long-standing PRMIA volunteers, and have been awarded an excellence Merit for their service to the association.
