Be part of an award-winning international student competition. The Risk Management Challenge, a case competition of the PRMIA Institute, empowers undergraduate and graduate students by taking them beyond the classroom and giving them exposure to real-world business situations. The Challenge offers students the opportunity to apply the concepts they have learned and showcase their knowledge, critical thinking skills, leadership, and presentation abilities while competing to win a US$10,000 prize.

Students say one of the highlights of their experience is the chance to grow their professional network and gain insight into the risk industry as they meet with students, faculty, and risk leaders from around the world.

Teams of three to four students are presented with two case studies over three rounds of competition. Learn more about the rules and structure of the Competition in the Program Handbook.

We are proud to have MathWorks as a global sponsor. Upon registration, MathWorks will provide all team members with a one-year MATLAB license to facilitate technical computing and modeling as part of their solutions.

Student Status

The competition is open to any undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at the time of registration. Each team member must use their university-affiliated email address to show proof of student status.

Area of Study

Students from across any of the following areas of study are encouraged to participate: finance, economics, mathematics, business or commerce, accounting, and marketing. There are no coursework pre-requisites.

Teams of three to four members register together. The Challenge begins with a preliminary round, which is conducted online. All team submissions are evaluated on their approach to the case and, if successful, are chosen to enter the regional finals. Regional finalists advance to the international championship scheduled to be held in North America (location TBD) in April 2020.

The winning team wins a prize of up to US$10,000 (subject to US tax laws). The top two teams will receive scholarships for the Professional Risk Manager (PRM™) Designation (US$1,430 value per student).

Each team that qualifies for the international championship will receive a one-year PRMIA Sustaining Membership for each team member ($US200 value per student), including digital access to The Wall Street Journal, special member pricing on competency-focused credentialing along with learning and development programs, online risk resources, local and global connectivity to peers, and career building tools.
