Juan Calcagno
, MUFG Union Bank

Dr. Calcagno is a Managing Director in MUFG Union Bank’s Credit Risk Analytics team with over 10 years of Financial Services experience. Juan is an expert applied econometrician and leads teams responsible for quantitative modeling and innovative ideas underlying macroeconomic forecast and stress testing to address the heightened quantitative and qualitative expectations around CCAR/DFAST/CECL programs. Prior to joining MUFG Union Bank, Juan worked for KPMG and Moody’s Analytics, Economy.com division. He holds a PhD from Columbia University.

 
   
Bogie Ozdemir
, Former CRO of Tier 1 Canadian Bank

Bogie Ozdemir is a Financial Services Risk Management senior executive. He has extensive experience both as a practitioner and a consultant, having worked in the Canadian banking, insurance, and credit union industries. Until recently, he held the CRO and EVP position at CWB, and previously held senior risk leadership roles in Bank of Montreal, Sun Life Financial, and Standard and Poor’s. While at CWB, Bogie developed an advanced risk function and led the bank’s capital transformation, IFRS9 implementation, and as a member of the executive team, participated in its digital transformation.

Bogie is recognized as an industry thought leader and innovator in risk and capital management. He authored and co-authored three books on Basel implementation, Capital and Business Mix Optimization, and Risk Strategy, and published 20+ research articles in peer reviewed risk magazines.

Bogie has over 5 years of leadership training at prestigious business schools, holding ICD.D and FRM designations, an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto, Rotman Business School, and an M.Sc. MECH. ENG. degree. He also has extensive global experience working as a consultant with S&P’s Risk Solutions based in New York, but also covering Asia, Europe, and South America.

 
   
Alex Shipilov, MD

Dr. Alex Shipilov has over 25 years of experience gained inside the financial services industry. He has held executive positions with banking, insurance, and big accounting firms, and led risk management, internal audit functions, and quantitative risk advisory practices. He has also consulted financial institutions and corporate treasuries in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Spain, and Russia.

Alex’s experience includes a wide spectrum of services in regulatory remediation, governance, risk management, internal audit, modelling, and data analysis for financial institutions. He is a Sessional Lecturer with the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto.

Alex was a co-founder of PRMIA and the International Model Exchange (iModX.org).

 
   
Fernando De La Mora
, Managing Director and the Head of Álvarez & Marsal Spain and Portugal

Mr. de la Mora specializes in providing advice to financial institutions in the areas of capital, stress testing and risk management and he leads A&M’s European service offering in those areas. He brings more than 20 years of experience conducting a wide variety of risk, capital, strategic planning and M&A advisory projects. His clients include global financial services firms, investment bank, regional banks, insurance companies, asset managers and hedge funds.

Before A&M, Mr. de la Mora was a partner at PwC in New York where he led a practice of more than 350 professionals providing consulting services in risk management and regulatory advice. His areas of expertise included capital, stress testing and Basel III; and enterprise risk management; credit, market, operational and liquidity risk management practices.

Previously, Mr. de la Mora Fernando helped implement U.S. CCAR stress test guidelines to 13 of the 19 banks involved in the capital planning process led by the Federal Reserve. He also advised foreign banks and other regional banks in their capital management efforts. Clients include: Bank of America, BBVA, BNY Mellon, Citi, Deutsche Bank, GE Capital, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, RBC, RBS, Santander, State Street, TD, Suntrust and Wells Fargo.

In the area of risk management, Mr. de la Mora has served as an adviser to the boards of several major banks and insurance companies to strengthen risk governance and enterprise risk management practices in the context of lessons learned from the credit crisis.

Mr. de la Mora has spoken at industry conferences on Basel III, capital management, stress testing, and finance and risk integration. He has also published articles, authored book chapters on risk management, and has been featured on Bloomberg TV, CNN, WSJ, in Risk Magazine and The New York Times.

Mr. de la Mora started as an associate with Banco Santander conducting research for Latin American capital markets and working with trading and corporate banking units in London. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from CUNEF in Madrid. He also earned an MBA from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in e-business from Instituto de Empresa. He also holds a certification in strategic planning from INSEAD.
