Exam Prerequisites

Individuals applying to the PRM Program must provide evidence of meeting the following requirements:

  • Candidates must meet the minimum experience requirements, which include:

1. Graduate school (i.e. MBA, MSF, MQF etc.) or current CFA Charterholder, CIIA, or FRM holder, OR
2. Bachelor's degree with two years full-time work experience, OR
3. Four years full-time work experience.

IMPORTANT: Any work experience submitted must be associated with the financial services industries (including regulatory or rating industries), or in the risk management department of any industry.

Please note: While no documentation is required at the time of enrollment, verification of experience must be submitted after successfully completing the PRM exams to receive the designation.

Are you a student or a recent graduate? Students currently enrolled in a degree program and graduates who have recently completed an undergraduate degree program are eligible to take the PRM examinations as part of a special Student PRM program. They can then apply to the PRM Designation program when they are eligible, meet any remaining PRM requirements necessary, and become a PRM Designation Holder. This can be combined with the exemptions for accredited universities. Details can be found on the PRM for Student Program page

Are you a CFA Charterholder, CIIA, or FRM holder? Because the content in these certifications aligns closely with the material covered in PRM Exam 1, you are exempt from taking that exam and will only need to take PRM Exam 2 to achieve your PRM Designation. Learn more.

Program Pricing

To enter the PRM Program you must enroll and pay the program fee. You will receive an "authorization to test" email to schedule exams with our testing center, Pearson VUE. The standard approach is to then complete both exams unless you are approved for an exemption.

All PRM exams must be completed within a two-year period which commences from the date when your study materials and exam authorizations are passed to you. The appropriate digital PRM Handbooks are included in the program.

Note that candidates can now buy their exams individually or as a PRMIA member in a two exam bundle. However, as above, both exams must still be completed within two years.

To take advantage of the membership discount, log into your PRMIA account and select "become a member". You will need to purchase the membership first for the discount to be applied. Your price will update at checkout of your program purchase.

The exam purchase will provide you with the digital version of the handouts required for the exam and authorizations to take the exam one time each. The bundled exam authorizations are valid for 2 years and the individual exam authorization is valid for 1 year each. It is not required that they are purchased together and the exams can be taken in any order. The PRM Exams 1 and 2 are required to be completed successfully within a 2-year period.
